STEP for people with a disability

(Skilling, Training & Employment Partnerships) for people with a disability


  • An FSG Australia initiative that creates pathways for individuals with a disability in skilling, training and employment
  • Linking people with similar interests and facilitating classes, workshops and social groups
  • Creates opportunities to obtain paid or volunteer positions within the community
  • The program is run from our Garden Street house, Southport.
 
The STEP program incorporates:
 
Post School Services Program - Enrich
Department of Communities funded, this program is for people with disability 18 years of age and older; individually-funded goal-based programs supporting transition from school to an adult lifestyle.  The focus is on community access to develop independent living skills and participate in volunteer work placement; supported on a 1:1 basis.
 
Community Literacy Program
Funded by the Department of Employment and Industrial Relations (DEIR), this accredited 47 week course in Adult Literacy and Numeracy, offers a pathway to further education, employment and improved community participation for adults with a disability and learning barriers.
 
The course is delivered in small classes at Robina and Southport by a qualified tutor and aims to:
 provide work readiness skills;
  • improve reading, writing, oral communication and social skills;
  • build problem-solving and decision making skills;
  • improve computer skills;
  • increase further training and employment options.
 
Learning for Life - Training Project
  • Accredited training course funded by the Department of Employment and Industrial Relations (DEIR)
  • Provides people with a unique, personalised program of learning and new opportunities to explore life and career pathways
  • Aims to develop personal management and work related skills, as well as improve literacy and numeracy competencies.
  • An individually tailored leaning plan that combines practical knowledge, employability and life skill development.
